I personally feel citizens give to much credibility to political advertisemnts. People should keep in mind that the advertisements, are in the end, trying to sell you something. The only way to have an informed opinoin is to look up the facts yourself from credible sources.

Ironic that campaign ads are considered non-commercial, since they're certainly designed to sell a product.

Actually, we don't have to imagine a world in which advertising were completely unregulated. We only have to look to the past, before advertising was regulated at all. Hey, snake oil will cure all your ills.

For example:
An 1868 ad for Wolcott's Pain Paint:

poli ads are laughable (that's why I gave it a thumbs up, they're hysterical)...it's all a moot point...no one trusts advertising... nielsen survey shows nearly half of all people that see an ad don't trust it...these ads are even more unbelievable.

Whether or not you agree that truth-in-advertising should apply, we can all agree on a few things. With all the mudslinging, it's difficult to say who's who and what's what. At this point, it's just noise that doesn't sway me one way or the other. I can access the objective information I need to make an informed decision online. All that said, Washington should stop wasting their money. Although, it seems that's the only thing they're really good at it.

Ads distributed by politicians, legislators, and lobbyists should be held to the same standards as the rest of the marketing industry. Maybe even more so, given the nature of the content. That is to say, issues like health care reform are far more more serious than the deodorant I'm going to buy the next time I'm at the store. I can figure out that Degree is better than Ban. What I'm looking for from Washington is an objective look at both sides. Pipe dream, I know...
